Pelosi and House Democrats Were Grotesquely Upbeat While Signing Articles of Impeachment
Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the names of seven impeachment trial “managers” who will make the case against President Donald Trump in the Senate. The managers are: Reps. Adam Schiff of California, who will be the lead manager; Jerry Nadler of New York; Val Demings of Florida; Hakeem Jeffries of New York; Zoe Lofgren of California; Sylvia Garcia of Texas; and Jason Crow of Colorado. It has not yet been decided whether witnesses will be called to testify at the trial, which is set to begin Tuesday. Aired on 1/15/20.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a show about all the prayer she’s been doing during the impeachment process, signaling that she understood the gravity of what she was doing, and yet she could hardly contain herself on Wednesday when she finally, finally, signed the impeachment articles and sent them over to the Senate for trial.
There has never been a reason to take this particular impeachment seriously, but, after the spectacle Pelosi and her selected impeachment managers, all Democrats, put on for the delivery of the articles, there’s no reason anyone should take any impeachment seriously ever again.
Pelosi sat next to a plate full of pens so that she could sign the articles, letter by letter, with a separate pen for each. Jubilant, she then handed out the pens to each of her managers, plus Rep. Maxine Waters, of California, who held hers up with a beaming smile.
To be sure, this was not a ceremony celebrating a groundbreaking for a new hospital or the signing of the deed on a new house. It was the signing of impeachment articles for the purpose of impeaching and removing a sitting president during an election year.
There is no lesser word for Pelosi and the Democrats’ conduct than unseemly.
When it’s their turn to undergo the same treatment, they can look back on this moment and remember why it’s happening to them this same way.
